Olympics Day 14 || August 7th
Intro:
Pretty exciting day at the Olympics. Let’s check it all out!
Olympics Day 14 RECAP:
First things first, the biggest news of the day.
In an absolute stunner, India’s Vinesh Phogat gets disqualified because he failed to “make weight”. No. It wasn’t a huge amount. Not even a kilogram over (2 pounds). Just a couple of grams. Many news outlets say that this was absolutely racist. I can’t say the same words, but I do agree this is pretty bad.
She was absolutely unbeatable on the mat, winning against the top-seeded player Yui Sasuki. Before this thing, she qualified for the gold medal match, trying to compete for India’s first gold at the Paris Olympics. With this disqualification, she will not compete for a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Susaki, who was originally eliminated, will now compete for bronze.
Women’s golf continued today and so did other sports. The taekwondo tournament began today with some exciting matches and a taekwondo class coming on Gold Zone. Thailand won the gold for the women’s -49kg and Korea won the gold for the men’s -58kg. What a start to Taekwondo!
Today’s sport of the day? Handball. We had WAY TOO MANY close finishes today and this sport also had the game of the day. Spain vs Egypt was 29-28. Today’s game of the day? France vs Germany in the men’s bracket. Germany was trailing by 1 with 5 seconds left. It was France’s ball. They put so much pressure on France that they turned the ball over. With 1 second left on the clock, Germany released the ball scoring the goal and tying the game. Then, we went to extras. It was an event contest until the last few minutes when France pulled away. Germany being Germany, they didn’t quit and we were tied with 10 seconds left. And then? Germany scored at the last second. AGAIN. They won the game 35-34. If you have access to Peacock, I recommend watching the replay.
Another sport that was exciting today? Sport climbing. In the women’s speed today, Poland took over winning gold and bronze. It was a great competition to watch. Hockey continued today with the women’s semi-finals. Once again, a Netherlands team made the final. This time in the women’s bracket. Amazing how good they are at this sport. Water Polo also continued. This time with the quarterfinals.
Another thing about Poland. They showed the whole world who they were at volleyball beating the USA. Wow. The US couldn't redeem themselves either winning silver at skateboarding behind Australia. The fun thing about that event was you had a 51 year old named Andy MacDonald competing. While he didn’t do very well, the effort he put into that is crazy for his age.
The team table tennis tournament continued with lots of great matches. Weightlifting also began today. In the men’s 61kg, China’s Fabin Li took gold. Thailand won another medal (silver). The US took bronze. Cycling Track was also very fun today. The US won the women’s team pursuit. Continuing on, China took another gold at Artistic Swimming and also won the women’s side of the weightlifting tourney.
Finally, track and field. In the discus throw, Jamaica took first. In the men’s 400m, the US took gold and the men’s 3000m had Morocco winning. We cap off the day with boxing. Cuba took first in the men’s 63.5kg, France took silver. In the men’s 80kg, Ukraine took the W.
The Lookout:
Obviously, this US women’s basketball team just cannot be stopped. Will that prove the same for the men? They face Serbia tomorrow at 3:00 P.M. EST.

Conclusion:
We’re nearing the end of the Olympics people. Just a few more days and all the fun… ends.
I’m going to be pretty busy these next few days, so this is the final Olympic Coverage post during the Olympics. After the Olympics, I’ll run a complete recap and do 2-3 feature stories and that’ll be it. NFL content will begin after the Olympics and coverage on postseason baseball will too. I’ll try my best to get in basketball content before, but by the time we reach October, that should be coming out regularly as well.
Thanks for reading all this “series”. My “How Celebrities Impact Sports” chapter previews will be coming back and expect some changes to format, site, and more in the coming weeks.
