Sorry for the delay in the Olympics content. Let’s get to it.
Olympics Coverage:
What a day we had on August 4th. To start the medal events today, Scottie Scheffler took gold in golf, climbing 6 places in just one day. With an amazing round 4 performance, he edged out Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood by 1 point to win it all. 1 hour later, the Germans absolutely took over the equestrian event, taking gold and silver. In hockey quarterfinals, India shocked the world taking down Great Britain in shootouts 4-2.
Then began tennis. The Spanish duo, Busca and Sorribes Tormo won in straight sets to take bronze. After that came the matchup of the day, the revenge game, Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz. What a tightly contested game this was. In the two sets that they played, Carlos and Novak each had to play the maximum amount of games. 13. Djokovic prevailed, winning both in a tiebreak and getting revenge on the biggest stage. This is his first gold medal. For the final tennis match of the Olympics in Paris, the Italians beat up AIN (Russians/Belurusians) to win the gold medal in women’s doubles.
On to boxing. Cholmi Pang of North Korea took the bronze medal in the women’s -54KG. Billal Bennama of France took the bronze medal in the men’s 51kg. In the men’s 63.5 KG, Wyatt Sanford from Canada took home a bronze medal, and in the men’s 80kg, Cristian Javier Pinales of the Dominican Republic also took the same medal. From rackets to cycles, in the women’s cycling road event today, the USA took another gold with the Netherlands and Romania following behind. In archery, the Koreans took over the event winning gold and bronze. The USA came in 2nd place. The Chinese took over the men’s artistic gymnastics medal column winning gold and silver. Greece took bronze. Algeria got their first medal in the Paris Olympics for the women’s side of things. China and the USA followed respectively.
For the men’s badminton doubles medal games, Malaysia took bronze with Chinese Taipei upsetting China for the gold medal. In shooting, Chile took their first medal in the Olympic games. Great Britain came in second and the US came in 3rd. In the 50m women’s freestyle today, the US was nowhere to be seen. Sweden took gold, Australia took silver, and China took bronze. That was not the same in the men’s 1500 freestyle final with the US taking gold and Italy and Ireland taking silver and bronze.
For fencing, France robbed the US of a bronze medal. Italy took silver. Japan took gold. Back to swimming, in both the women’s and men’s side of things in the 4x100 meter medley relay, China and the US took medals.
Closing up the day, we had many track and field medal events. Here are the results.
I would like to talk about the last one. At about 9:50 PM Paris time, the men’s 100m final was taking place. Noah Lyles of the United States (who’s known as a finisher) won against Kishane Thompson of Jamaica by a 5000th of a second. A photo finish. While the race was only 9 seconds, it was still a sight to watch. Fred Kerley of the United States took 3rd.
He’s the first American man to win this track and field event in 20 years. Party tonight Noah!
Had to look up the rules on the Noah Lyles photo finish.
